## The brief

We revised and translated a Russian technical brief into English for the development of a parts manufacturing specification.

## What made it hard

Tolerances, material designations and mandatory requirements had to remain usable in technical documentation.

## Translation specimens

ru: Отклонение от допуска по диаметру не должно превышать 0,02 мм.

en: The deviation from the diameter tolerance shall not exceed 0.02 mm.

The requirement uses shall not exceed to state the tolerance limit unambiguously.

ru: Материал детали: сталь 40Х, термообработка по спецификации заказчика.

en: Part material: 40Kh steel, heat treatment in accordance with the customer specification.

The steel designation remains in its source form; the processing requirement is stated in specification register.
